While Autodesk's Forma product is evolving through artificial intelligence (AI) to automate the heavy lifting of building design, it has invested in Transcend, a Princeton, N.J.-based startup pointing AI at the problem of infrastructure design.

IRONPROS caught up with Transcend founder and Chief Customer Officer Adam Tank at Autodesk University 2023 for an overview of the Transcend Design Generator SaaS software for AI-drive infrastructure conceptual design.

TANK: We enable asset owners, engineering firms and equipment suppliers to quickly generate conceptual designs. Today for us, that means water, wastewater and power with line of sight to many other industries in the near future.

IRONPROS: So when you say conceptual design, that is about 30%. But what are the blanks that people have to fill in?

TANK: It is a matter of how detailed you want to get. The 30 percent stops at a basic P&ID. You get a Revit model that is kicked out of the software. You have an equipment list, a load list, design basis, technical description etcetera. But if you want to take that to the next level of design ... STREAM OUR FULL CONVERATION FOR MORE ...
