The importance of getting your grade correct ahead of further applications, especially those pertaining to concrete or asphalt pavements, is essential for a lot of reasons. The proper drainage being chief among them, impacting the lifespan and durability of those surfaces. Into this space, Cat has brought to market a new set of versatile grading beams for Car tiltrotators.
These are meant to allow contractors to make dynamic and efficient grading and compaction work using existing excavators. According to the Cat press release, the new grading beams enable a 360 degree, bidirectional, and 40 degree left-and-right rotation of the grading beam when it is paired with the Cat tiltrotators.

The adjustable roller can be mechanically changed from less than half an inch below frame (.40) up to more than three-quarters of an inch above frame (.79) allowing for smooth compaction on a variety of material types. Additionally, sticking is reduced due to an included scraper even when working with clay, silt, or other adhesive-like materials.
The grading beam is available in five different widths ranging from 49 inches to 118 inches, designed to be useful for applications like grading sidewalks or other, larger job site situations.

The design’s large top opening with solid extended sides and side plates allow the beam to spread, compact, and grade materials quickly and effectively. Highly abrasion resistant, Hardox 500 wear protection at the bottom of the beam protects the frame for long-life operation. The beam’s welded frame increases structural rigidity, while additional support plates on the heavy-duty frame extend beam strength and overall service life.

The grading beams are compatible with Cat Grade Technology which allows contractors to save additional time and increase accuracy. When used with Cat tiltorotators the beams are automatically recognized, confirms the attachments identity and ensures all pressure, flow and dimension settings are correct.
